The Every Child Matters programme places better outcomes for children firmly at the centre of all policies and approaches involving children's services. These outcomes are:

This programme demands that all organisations that provide services to children work together in more integrated and effective ways. As a childminder I adhere to a number of regulations drawn up by OMEP (UK). These regulations are known as the Charter for Childhood.

The Charter for Childhood
• All children are entitled to all they need to realise their full potential and for the healthy growth and
development of their minds, bodies and emotions.
• All children should have the right to a secure, happy and healthy childhood.
• All children need opportunities to grow up in a family where they experience the love, care and time
of adults that are special to them.
• All children are entitled to know the security of peace of mind in their childhood and be sheltered from conflict.
• All children are entitled to opportunities to learn and understand appropriate to their needs.
• All children are entitled to play, grow and learn in safe and exiting environments  free from harm and worry.
• All children need opportunities and support to grow up with an attitude of tolerance and understanding of themselves and others.
• All children should be encouraged to be proud of their name, their identity, their home language, their religion and culture.
• All children are entitled to the high quality services and facilities they need in the areas of care, education, health, housing, law and recreation, provided by appropriately trained, qualified and experienced adults.
• All children need opportunities and support to understand and consider the rules and expectations of the society in which they grow up.
• All children need opportunities to make some choices ad to develop self-discipline.
• All children should be free from exploitation by adults.? Their hearts, minds and bodies belong to them and must not be violated.
• Every adult should uphold and preserve the rights and needs of childhood.
• No child should be discriminated against for any reason including race, sex, class and disability.
• All children should be respected as citizens in their own right.
